The Econowind VentoFoil generates thrust by using wind energy, reducing the propulsion power and/or boost ship speed. Fuel savings and emission reductionsof typically 5 to 40% are achieved depending on vessel type and number of VentoFoil units.Ventilators in the wingsail create an underpressure on the wing surface, called ‘boundary layer suction’ in aerospace technology. At common wind speeds it prevents stalling and allows a much higher wind angle of attack, boosting the power density up to three times that of the most advanced passive wingsails.
Based on the differences between ships, Econowind has launched various sizes of VentoFoil propulsion units, with mainstream sizes mainly including 16m, 30m, and containerized propulsion units.
